STEP ONE: DOWNSIZING
So you are considering hitting the road, but how do you fit your entire life into a tiny motorhome? It is time to learn about downsizing!
How much room does a person take up when sleeping, eating, watching TV and working? Think about it as you go about your daily business in your stick house. Look around you - how many of your things do you actually use everyday? Every week? Go through things every couple months and justify its existence. If you haven't used something in six months - odds are you don't need it anyway. How many plates, eating utensils or pots and pans do you really need?
Looking at the interior of my RV, I realize that the only "things" I own are a wooden folding TV table from WalMart, two lamps, my television, a portable fireplace, microwave, laptop and stereo. Everything else is "built in" - bed, dresser, storage and kitchen cabinets, sofa, refrigerator - permanently attached to the walls of the RV.
And (as my pictures show) I have a sweet living space - comfortable, bright, warm in the winter, cool in the summer - and music, there is always music in my little RV!
Is it an easy journey to go from a house full of things to having just what you need? Certainly not. We are a society of "more". We are a nation of "must have". But there is a speical feeling of freedom when you are unemcumbered by too many possessions!
I will not leave a lot of "stuff" for my children after I am gone. I hope my legacy will be one of peace, love, faith and the courage to live your dreams.
